Project Overview
Client: Shawsheen Valley Technical High School, MA
Timeline: Winter – Fall 2022
Role: Technical Assistance for Laptop Deployment
Tools Used: Windows 10, Windows 7, Microsoft
End-Points: 23 Laptops
Project Background
Shawsheen Valley Technical High School is dedicated to providing high-quality academic and vocational/technical education. The school aims to equip students with the understanding that education is a lifelong, continuous process with numerous paths to a successful and fulfilling life.
The Challenge
The school faced two main challenges in procuring and setting up new laptops:
Off-Site Procurement and Cloning
Procurement: Secure and prepare 23 laptops.
Cloning: Clone each laptop with the school-provided system image, ensuring it includes all required configurations and settings.
On-Site Setup and Deployment
Naming and Configuration: Name each device, adjust system settings, and asset tag each laptop.
Docking Station Placement: Place each laptop on docking stations as specified by the school.
The critical task was to ensure all laptops arrived with the correct system image and were ready for immediate use when the support engineer arrived on-site. This required coordination with partner vendors for timely cloning and shipping.
Our Solution
To address these challenges, AKA Comp Solutions implemented a comprehensive plan:
Off-Site Preparation
- System Image Cloning: Cloned the system image provided by the school onto all 23 laptops.
- Shipping Coordination: Ensured timely shipment of the cloned laptops to the school.
On-Site Deployment
- Support Engineer Tasks: Sent a support engineer on-site to:
- Verify clone status, ensuring all user settings, software, drivers, and configurations matched the provided system image.
- Name the devices, connect them to the internet, create user accounts, and asset tag the devices.
- Place the laptops on the specified docking stations in the designated rooms.
Collaboration
- The support engineer worked closely with the school’s IT in-charge and the Director of Educational Technology to ensure all requirements were met.
The Results
The collaboration resulted in:
Accurate Setup
All laptops were cloned with the correct system image, named, configured, and asset-tagged as required.
Efficient Deployment
The support engineer ensured all devices were placed on docking stations and met the school’s specifications.
Enhanced Efficiency
The project streamlined the procurement and setup process, allowing the school to have ready-to-use laptops with minimal effort from their staff.
